Consumer product licensing due diligence - A client company heard of a product that interested them as a licensing or acquisition target. The client had absolutely no idea of the product’s name or manufacturer, nor did they possess any information on the intellectual property associated with that product. The client suspected that the product might have been derived from a NASA or U.S. military application, so Access Information Services began its search there. After finding no trace of any such product, Access began searching through relevant worldwide sources, eventually identifying the product in a completely unexpected category and tracing its intellectual property rights to an obscure U.K. firm. While the client began negotiations with the U.K. firm, further research by Access revealed that a variation of the intellectual property and the authority for U.S. and Latin American licensing resided in the hands of a private Canadian citizen.
